My mom surprised me yesterday and sent me towels with each kid’s name on them.   I love them.  They match my bathroom perfectly.  My mother is one of the most talented creative women you will ever meet.  Whenever I see something crafty I always think, "I could make that.".  I know I got that mindset from my mom.  The only difference is she truly can and I just THINK I can.

Some families bond over popcorn and a board-game, growing up we united over a sewing machine. Every year my mom would custom make an outfit of my choosing for the first day of school.  She made me a Cabbage Patch and tailor fit all my 5’11" cousin’s hand-me-downs.  The woman could (and still can) do it all!  This lead me to believe I too could sew anything.  I was lacking one key ingredient, patience.  I wanted it done now, therefore I saw no need for a pattern and pins.  I just wanted to cut it out and start sewing.  That is why I’m notoriously know amongst my family members as the creator of the E.T. doll.  Yes, it was intended to be a Cabbage Patch, but lack of planning caused the fingers of the doll to be contorted and the head to lack in it’s circular form.  I also often tried my hand at sewing clothing for myself.  However, my younger sister usually benefited from those creations (benefited is used very loosely here).  She always received my mini-skirts (emphasis on mini) that I attempted to make for myself by wrapping a piece of fabric around my waste cutting it and sewing up the side.  Something was always lost in translation and it wound up skintight and super short.  Then came the job of convincing Little Sis it was cool and that she really did want to wear it.  That way I wouldn’t get in trouble for wasting fabric.

I still have trouble taking time to sew things the "right" way and I usually end up saying the magic words to my mom.   The magic words are not please, but rather "What can I do for you Mom?"  Then I end up making dinner or worse, cleaning out the dreaded Tupperware cupboard while she hems my pants.  I worry about what  I will do without her talent right around the corner.  But, I did like the convenience of the man in brown dropping of a box filled with creations from my mom this week!  This could work to my advantage.  Keep the packages coming Mom!

Here’s a photo of the shower curtain the towels so nicely match and yes, that is my 2 year old on the potty.  He’s shown a sudden interest.  It may just be for the candy he receives for successfully filling the tank, but whatever works.  I just need fewer kids in diapers!

Hey mom Eddy and Sami are waiting for their towels.
I was definetly moms best sewer! Notice you were not asked to sew for the sweat shoppe (collars don’t count) Mom must have slacked in her teaching skills by the time she got down to Kaylie cause Kaylie tried to shorten her pants the other day and sewed both legs shut. I don’t know if she’s lacking skill or just commonsense.

Ellexa, You are a great encouragement to Jaxton. Big sisters are important in their little brother’s life. Go Jaxton, diapers are for sissies. Grandpa D

I remember your mom trying to teach Michelle and I to sew too. Bless her heart. For our Christmas present, we got to pick out fabric to make shorts when you were on Stilesgate. We sat in the basement and she helped us with the pattern, cutting and sewing it together – pockets and all!
Those were the best presents, and the ones I remember the most. The ones where the family spent time with us instead of buying something. Two uncles would take ALL the cousins to the roller rink. They would make a silly rhyme for a card at Christmas as an invitation. It was great!
Aunt Karen helped us sew and I think it was her (maybe Betsy) that taught us how to weave baskets.
And then there was the (nameless) relative that always gave me calendars with cats or horses when I was growing up and didn’t care what day it was.
I love the gift of time the best.
Oops, this is Sara’s blog isn’t it…She has a great Mom!!!

It’s hard to notice The Jax is on the toilet when that burr head of hair never seems to show any growth back to normal. Grandpa D
